This is a story of a young girl who learns self-worth by embracing the very “flaws” that make her beautiful. Strawella Berry is a spunky fairy that enters a singing competition only to realize winning doesn’t feel so good when one has to pretend to be someone they are not.

Alejandria Kate wrote How the Strawberry Got Its Seeds with the hope that Strawella’s story inspires children to celebrate being different as well as imparts courage and confidence to any child who has suffered self-esteem issues.

 About the Author

Alejandria Kate is a writer, author and certified Mind, Body, Spirit Practitioner through the Sunlight Alliance Foundation. Alejandria is passionate about personal development and uplifting others.

She draws inspiration from the beauty – both large and small – that she observes in the world around her and from the quiet moments connected with Spirit and her own soul. She believes vulnerability is a strength and an open heart is a key to inner joy. She believes that through a shift in perspective beauty can be found within every experience.

Alejandria graduated from the Institute of Children’s Literature, where she studied writing for children and young adults. In her spare time she plays the Native American flute and hikes the walking trails in Southern California in her pursuit of viewing wildflowers.

It is Alejandria’s hope that readers feel comforted and inspired after reading her books.

Can you, for those who don’t know you already, tell something about yourself and how you became an author? I am a Writer at Heart. I write everything from songs, to TV&Film scripts to poetry which is basically how I became an author. My first book published was a book of poetry.  What is something unique/quirky about you? Hmm…I would say that I am really introverted and sometimes reserved/shy at first meeting but once I get to know you I can be lots of fun and I have a great sense of humor if you can open me up. Tell us something really interesting that’s happened to you! I have experienced Police Brutality first hand and I still live to tell my story and Thank God I am not a statistic but I can be a part of the conversation. What are some of your pet peeves? I don’t like rude people and pessimistic people or people that tell you something can’t be done when they know and you know that it can be. Don’t give me a problem without a solution. Where were you born/grew up at? I was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. If you knew you’d die tomorrow, how would you spend your last day? Wow…I would probably spend my last day praying for more time on the clock…because I have so many other things that I want to complete before that last day and I would not believe that my time would be up before I completed those purpose filled tasks. Who is your hero and why? Man… I have so many Heroes. My Heroes are anyone who has survived something. My Mother….She has strength, courage and wisdom…. My Grandmother who was 89 years old that just passed away April 2020…She was my hero because she fought until her last breath…and had survived so much in 89 years. Also…anyone that has survived racism Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.,  Maya Angelou, Oprah Winfrey also anyone that has survived and overcome to become successful..and one of my Heroes is Tyler Perry. He has an amazing rags to riches story and he travels his own path to success..He went from Homelessness to a Billionaire through Arts & Entertainment… What kind of world ruler would you be? I would be a world ruler for Peace, Love and Equality for all mankind no matter their race, age, creed, religion, sexuality, disability, gender, socio economic status etc.  What are you passionate about these days?  I’m passionate about creative writing and sharing my creative writing with the world and putting positive projects into the world that can enhance the lives of others. I am also passionate about spreading messages of hope, peace and love and positivity in a world full of negativity.     What do you do to unwind and relax? I have a great conversation on the phone with a family member or friend to relax. How to find time to write as a parent? I’m not a parent but I would say create a schedule for writing and stick to it. If you have a child then make sure they can have play time while you have write time so that both of you are occupied doing something you enjoy that won’t distract the other. 🙂 Describe yourself in 5 words or less! Tenacious, Creative, Nurturing, Resourceful, Leader When did you first consider yourself a writer? I have been writing since my youth. I actually first got paid for a poem I wrote in a poetry contest in Junior High. I would say then I knew I was a writer because I got paid for it. Do you have a favorite movie? My Favorite movie is “A Thin Line Between Love and Hate.”  It stars Martin Lawrence, Lynn Whitfield and Regina King. I like it because it is layered with comedy, drama, emotions, psychotic behaviors, love so many emotions in one movie and Lynn Whitfield’s character explores a wide range of emotions as an Actress. Which of your novels can you imagine made into a movie? I have two books and I believe this book “I Don’t Like Racism” can be an animation movie or tv show.   What literary pilgrimages have you gone on? I’m not aware of any literary pilgrimages I’ve been on. As a writer, what would you choose as your mascot/avatar/spirit animal? I would say I am a Lion…Hear Me Roar!! There’s strength in what I have to say!

I Love you Always

One Family’s Alzheimer’s/Dementia Journey and the Lessons Learned Along the Way

Non Fiction

Date Published: July 10, 2020

photo add-to-goodreads-button_zpsc7b3c634.png

“I Love You Always” introduces you to Lottie Mae Polk Berry, a self-proclaimed badass who battles Alzheimer’s and vascular dementia for years, hoping to make it to age 90. Her daughter, LaBena, gives a detailed account of Lottie’s life from her teenage years, through diagnosis and beyond.

“I Love You Always” will have you on an emotional roller-coaster as Lottie’s wit and antics send you into hysterical laughter one moment and leave you silently sobbing the next. Calm, turbulence, and laughter are recurring themes throughout.

Her children struggle to see that she receives the best medical care while hoping, in spite of her condition, that she makes it to her 90th birthday. LaBena shares valuable caregiver tips she’s learned, in the form of “lessons” throughout the book as well messages of faith in the form of beloved biblical passages. Believers and non-believers alike can benefit from reading this story.

About the Author

LaBena Fleming was born in Detroit, Michigan, raised in Ravenna, Ohio, and presently resides in Richmond Heights, Ohio with her husband. LaBena received her bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Development from Notre Dame College of Ohio. She went on to earn master’s degrees in Education and Educational Administration from Ursuline College in Pepper Pike, Ohio. A former insurance industry professional, school teacher/administrator, and community education and outreach coordinator for an organ and tissue procurement organization, LaBena retired from her position as Provider Relations Manager/Community Outreach and Education Coordinator with Hospice of the Western Reserve in 2017. Retiring afforded LaBena the opportunity to serve as one of the caregivers for her mother, who had Alzheimer’s and vascular dementia.

LaBena currently enjoys spending time with her husband, daughters, and granddaughter, public speaking, gardening, cooking, traveling, reading, and of course writing. Although she has always “dabbled” in writing; having written multiple poems and freelancing for a few greeting card companies, I Love You Always is her first book.

Pieces of Granite

Pieces of Granite

Book Review

Pieces of Granite, Coming Home Series prequel

This is the story of Debbie and Jerry Verhoeven. They are an ordinary couple. Jerry is a school teacher and Debbie is a counselor. But, the couple has decided that she should stay home with her children.

She is pregnant with their second child. The first child is named Kaitlynn, and she’s a handful. The couple is concerned as they are waiting for the result of an amniocentesis test. Jerry’s child with his first wife had down syndrome and died of a heart defect.

He is terrified of this happening again and can not handle it. His first wife left him because he did not handle the grief well. He’s now afraid that it will happen again. He is jealous of his wife, Debbie’s strength and faith.

Debbie is a strong woman of faith, but also strong-willed. She doesn’t want to ask anyone for help. The couple has trouble in their marriage when neither of them gives control over to God.

When the baby is found to have Down Syndrome, Jerry begins to have panic attacks. He withdraws from his wife and the baby, too. The rest of the story is how they deal with the situation.

Things get very bad between them and they need to learn to give their problems and control over to God. The book is an easy read and you will find yourself hoping that they can pull it together.

About the Author

I’ve spent roughly 19 years in the Hospitality Industry and my favorite part about it is the challenges and the ability to constantly learn. I started out in the culinary world, and I’ve created everything from intricate wedding cakes to catering for 10,000; as well as that one time the Royals won the World Series and the parade brought in about 800,000 people to my hotel area.

That was a crazy day!

I’m an artist on all levels; I love to paint, weld, design, decorate, build websites, blog and even write books. I approach life as a learning experience and I never pass up the opportunity to learn something new or try new cuisine.

For the last 7 years, I’ve exclusively been working on the wedding planning book and have seen a lot happening throughout the industry. I’ve had a lot of couples want to be able to book a wedding planner to help coordinate and guide them, but with rising costs in all areas of life it seems the wedding budgets get smaller while all the other wedding vendors raise their prices.

After spending years collecting experience, data, and memories I’ve been able to compile a comprehensive and extensive wedding planner to help all budgets.

The best part for you—you’ll have the guidance, experience, and knowledge of my 19 years behind you as you work through the Wedding Planner. Best part for your budget—it won’t cost you $4,000 for full wedding planning!

Everyone wins and your wedding is coordinated with the help of an experienced professional.
