Q1. IN YOUR BOOK STOP STRESS FAST YOU HIGHLIGHT THAT THE TECHNIQUES NOT ONLY LOWER STRESS, BUT THEY ALSO TAKE YEARS OFF YOUR FACE AT THE SAME TIME. CAN YOU EXPLAIN HOW THIS WORKS?
With the correct use of our breath, we can consciously reduce the stress hormone cortisol. High levels of cortisol in the body prematurely age the skin because it breaks down collagen, lowers the production of hyaluronic acid and increases free radicals, which make the skin more prone to wrinkles and fine lines. So when we calm the mind and reduce the levels of cortisol in the body, we naturally de-stress and age less!
Over the years I have seen thousands of people reduce stress and develop high levels of wellness simply by using the techniques that I advocate and use myself each day. Through this process they find that they feel healthier and look discernibly younger, taking years off their faces in a very short time.

We only need to look at the increase in eating disorders and plastic surgery procedures being undertaken by women, men and even teenagers to see that people feel enormous amounts of pressure to look a certain way.
Q3. LAST YEAR WHEN THE PANDEMIC HIT, MANY PEOPLE ALL AROUND THE WORLD FELT STRESSED IN A WAY THAT WE HAVEN’T SEEN BEFORE. HOW DID THIS STRESS IMPACT YOU?
Last year was an interesting one for me. It was a time of deep reflection and introspection, but it was also a time of enormous loss and sadness. Losing my mother very suddenly was an incredible reminder of how fragile life is, and to celebrate it rather than stress over it.
So while 2020 was challenging, I have always believed that what doesn’t challenge you, doesn’t change you. Last year changed me by giving me what I call ‘2020 vision’, as to what was important, what needed to be strengthened and most importantly what needed to be left behind.
So while stress impacts us all differently, the one thing that is true for all of us is that it needs to be actively managed, so that it doesn’t become bigger than we are. If stress is left unmanaged it can become a ‘toothy beast’ that eats away at our health and our quality of life.
Q4. THE GL BREATHING TECHNIQUE IN STOP STRESS FAST IS VERY SIMPLE, BUT ALSO POWERFUL IN TERMS OF ITS ABILITY TO DELIVER IMMEDIATE RESULTS. IS IT SOMETHING CHILDREN CAN USE AS WELL?
My breathing technique is quick and very easy, which is why I believe I have received a number of letters from parents who use it in the evenings as something that the whole family does together to reduce stressful feelings.
What is great is that when you give children an understanding of the power of their breath to manage their feelings, you are teaching them something they can use for the rest of their lives to lower their stress levels whenever they are under pressure or feel anxious.
Q5. IN STOP STRESS FAST YOU HAVE A BREATHING EXERCISE THAT IS DONE BEFORE EATING. CAN YOU EXPLAIN WHY?
When we feel anxious or we eat on the run, our body goes into flight or flight mode. This impacts our ability to digest food and as a result we experience poor nutrient absorption.
Breathing deeply and calming the body before eating plays an important role in good digestion and ensuring the body is getting the nutrients it needs to function at a peak level.
When we are under stress we want to support the body in as many ways as we can and how we eat is just as important as what we are eating. Calming ourselves before we eat puts our body into the mode of ‘rest and digest’ and in that state we are supporting not only our digestion, but effective nutrient absorption.
What I believe after decades of dealing with stress and skin is that a lifestyle incorporating nutritious food and deep breathing is the best youth enhancing approach we can take.
