Excerpt
“On Monday, he designs and draws the model on paper. This time, the shoes will be red—my favourite colour. Next, he chooses the shoe lasts.
On the shoe last, he makes the pattern to cut the pieces of leather.
Papa tells me, “The last comes first. When you know what you want, you can plan the steps from where you are to where you want to be.”

MY REVIEW
This children’s book is very peaceful and sweet. Papa is the father of a little boy who likes to visit his father in the shoe making workshop. As Papa creates a pair of red shoes, the little boy watches each step. The father is wise and shows him how to make shoes but also passes on good life lessons.
He taught him to take his time and do the steps correctly, but if he was to make a mistake he could go back and fix it. When the father had finished the red shoes and they were resting, the little boy accidently got shoe paint on them. He worried all night about the shoes.
He thought of a solution and crept down to the workshop. There he opened the black shoe paint and splattered it equally on both shoes. He had found a solution to the problem and fixed it in a creative way. Papa was very proud that his son had learned a good lesson.
The book is good for teaching children. The writing makes me think of Mr. Rogers and it shows how a good family will react to children doing something wrong. It’s a healthy reaction to someone who makes a mistake.
