About the Book
It’s one thing to feel God’s love when life goes your way, but what happens to your faith when life doesn’t go as you had planned?
When prayers go unanswered and dreams unfulfilled?
Facing Disappointment and Denial without Losing Heart, Losing Hope, or Losing Your Head. No is not a four-letter word, but it certainly feels like one.
When the sick stay sick and the dead do not rise?
When you’re lost in the desert and the Promised Land seems like empty promise?
When God says, “No,” how do you grapple with disappointment?
Author Elizabeth Laing Thompson walks alongside readers as she tackles the difficulties that stymie our faith, stifle our prayers, and stunt our relationship with God. When God Says, “No” will help you to discover hope when life feels hopeless, good in what feels bad, and new dreams when old ones have died. This book is a fantastic reminder of Who is in charge—Who He is and how He works. How He loves us and why He limits us. The better we know Him, the more we understand that He says “No” to a few things, so He might say “Yes” to many more.

Elizabeth Laing Thompson writes at LizzyLife.com about clinging to Christ through the chaos of daily life. As a minister, speaker, and novelist, she loves finding humor in holiness and hope in heartache. She lives in North Carolina with her preacher husband and four spunky kids, and they were totally worth the wait.

My Review
We can all remember times when God has said “No” to the things we want. The title of this book was drawing me to read it and I enjoyed every page. I love the subtitle, “Facing Disappointment and Denial without losing heart, your hope, or your head.” Living with Chronic Illness has made me face the “no” of healing and so I was excited to read the book which reinforced what I believed about “nos.”
This book is very well written, with such organized and complete ideas! There are eleven chapters and each one can be read alone. At the end of each chapter are three questions that will help you to live out the truth. The book is filled with Scripture and each one left me with gratitude for all God has done. Each chapter is written about a different character in the Bible. The author starts with setting a scene in which the character is facing a no or potential no in their lives. She takes a little liberty in writing a script of the action in these well-known Bible stories.
I love the emphasis on hope. The point is that we should pray and ask for God to give us what we want. We shouldn’t give up unless the final answer is no. As “no” becomes real, the author describes how to live with that and how we should surrender to it. This book can change your life and I recommend it and look forward to reading other books by this author.
