Her True Worth Book Tour

Her True Worth: Breaking Free from a Culture of Selfies, Side Hustles, and People Pleasing to Embrace Your True Identity in Christ

Publisher: Thomas Nelson (July 5, 2022)

Hardcover: 256 pages

Brittany Maher and Cassandra Speer, leaders of the social media sensation and ministry Her True Worth, deliver a powerful call to women to break free from the bondage of false identities and discover their true worth in Jesus Christ.

After years of working in the beauty industry, Brittany Maher and Cassandra Speer became disheartened by the false, contradictory messages about what defines a woman’s worth. They saw women who were lost and wandering, endlessly seeking security and approval. So Maher and Speer made it their mission to help Christian women uncover their valuable identity in Jesus Christ.

In Her True Worth, Maher and Speer reveal what God intended our identity to be in the beginning, how sin corrupted it, how Christ has redeemed it, and how to live securely in that identity. They remind women that, ultimately, their true worth is found in him–and that’s a life-altering, soul-anchoring truth to live in and live from. Along the way, women will learn how to

  • identify the false messages that are stealing their self-worth;
  • understand how God defines them and how much he values them;
  • embrace what the Word of God says about who they are; and
  • find their security and significance in Christ alone.

By learning who Jesus is and who they are in him, women are transformed by this biblical message that shows them how worthy and deeply loved by God they are.

Have you ever read a book that you want to read again just so that you can enjoy it once more? This is one of those for me. Every page was grand and I couldn’t stop reading. In fact, it’s my number one book so far this year. This dual time-line book goes back and forth from 1905-1998. It’s based on a true place but the main characters are fictional. On the Penikese Island off the coast of Massachusetts, a leper hospital existed in the early 1900’s.

A family with two daughters was experiencing tragedy after their mother died and the father drank heavily and beat the youngest. The oldest girl, Atta, was to marry and take Gertie with her (saving her from her Papi). Then Atta was diagnosed with Leprosy and taken to Penikese Island to be treated. She was desperate to save Gertie and after time rowed back to her. Then Gertie got Leprosy and joined her on the island.

They went through horrible experimental treatments and their story was an emotional and terrifying read. But, Atta and her doctor were falling in love even though they knew they could never be together. All the characters were so interesting.

In the contemporary time, Emily is the granddaughter of Gertie and is going through an awful time herself. After a bad decision, this high school girl is pregnant and her parents have dropped her off at her grandmother’s house. Her father is a politician and doesn’t want her situation to ruin his chances of winning. She has a hard time at school, but makes a friend at the library.

She finds a picture of her relative on Penikese Island and convinces her grandmother to tell her the story about her past. It’s an amazing story and I can’t begin to tell you how wonderful it is. It truly relates to me, when I read Atta’s story as she tries to become content in all her circumstances.

The author gives many amazing scripture passages and hymns that are perfect in each moment when you feel like Atta can’t possibly handle one more minute of her miserable life. The book is filled with true Christian thought, grace, and love. Please read it!

A Biblical Worldview on Mental Health for Children by Natalie Duhon, MS, LPC

Ages: Grades 1-6, but can be adapted for younger or older children

Genre: Christian, Books on Emotions/Feelings

My Review

The title of this book is certainly accurate but doesn’t give the full picture of what you’ll find inside this huge and wonderful book. This book is a curriculum that parents can use at home with their child to teach them about mental wellness. It is presented from a Biblical standpoint, complete with Bible verses.

The author does a fabulous job of writing this 350 page book that covers: Emotions, Happiness, Peace, and Gratitude, Social and Communication Skills, and Biblical Learning to Improve Mental Health. These are just a few of the highlighted chapters.

In each chapter the author introduces the concept by using games, pictures, fill in the blanks, matching, crosswords, and art. There is a reflection at the end and this enables the parent to make sure that the child has truly understood the concept and can apply it to their situation.

Through journaling, drawing, and many other activities your child can learn to solve problems and not just react to what life throws at them. And, they’ll be able to do it using God’s word to live in peace and harmony.

Going headfirst down a rushing river isn’t good. I remembered
when Dr. and Mrs. M took us whitewater rafting a few months
ago. We were instructed that if we fell out of the raft we should lie

on our backs and put our feet in front of us. That way we’d hit
submerged rocks with our feet, not our heads.
This knowledge was no help at the moment. I was nothing
more than a rag doll being pitched about. Had I truly escaped the
kidnappers only to die in the river anyway? Which was worse?
Where was Levi? And Chad and Jen? I could see nothing
but roiling, brown water.
I shut everything from my mind except what I needed to
do. My survival required keeping my head above water. At least I
wasn’t crashing against any boulders. After what seemed an
eternity of tumbling and tossing like a washing machine, the river
current slowed enough for me to get into the feet-first position. I
had to focus all my effort on staying that way.
I rounded a curve. Ahead of me, I could see where part of
the river widened into a calm, flat surface. If I could only
maneuver my way into the still water! I kicked, trying to get to the
edge of the water, fearing I’d never reach it.
Then as though the river had decided to spew me out, I

found myself floating gently toward the bank. I put my feet down
and discovered mud under my sneakers. Sloshing to the edge, I
pulled myself out.
A new panic gripped me. Where were the others? Was I
ahead of them, or had they been pulled past this spot, unable to get
out? Or were they even still—no, I wouldn’t let my thoughts go
there! They had to be okay. Especially my twin.

More Than A Mom Book Tour

Publisher: Thomas Nelson (April 5, 2022)

Paperback: 240 Pages

What if taking care of yourself was the first step to helping your family thrive?

If you’ve parented long enough, then you’ve learned firsthand why your personal wellness matters. You’ve felt the pain (or consequences) of devaluing yourself. Whether your wake-up call came from a diagnosis, a breakdown, an issue with your child or spouse, anxiety, or simply feeling depleted and numb, it most likely unveiled this truth:

Mothers are humans too. We require love, compassion, rest, and renewal. Taking care of our needs strengthens us and equips us for the road ahead.

In More Than a Mom, bestselling author Kari Kampakis offers a practical, approachable, and attainable framework to stay on a healthy path. You can take your kids only as far as you’ve come–and since their strength builds on your strength, you must take time to focus on you. More Than a Mom is about unleashing God’s power in your life and standing on timeless truths that will help you

  • know your worth and embrace your purpose,
  • build strong, uplifting friendships that you can model for your children,
  • quit the negative self-talk and make peace with your body, and
  • learn to mother yourself by resting and setting boundaries.

The world shaping your children is more callous and complex than the world that shaped you. Kids need to be stronger, smarter, and more rooted in what’s real. Empower your son or daughter by tending to your heart, soul, body, and mind. Give them a vision of a healthy adult–and know that as they launch into the real world, they will build on what you started.

They Turned the World Upside Down

Title: They Turned the World Upside Down Author: Charles Martin Publisher: Thomas Nelson Release Date: January 5, 2021 Genre: Christian Life/Spiritual GrowthIn the aftermath of Jesus’ resurrection, the testimonies of those who had followed him were so bold and so powerful that they turned the world upside down. What would happen if we lived with that same kind of faith today?Walk in the shoes of the disciples, as New York Times bestselling author Charles Martin brings their stories to life with his storyteller’s perspective. In the first century, believer didn’t just mean someone who heard and agreed with Jesus; it meant someone who acted on that belief. And when the outside world saw the faith of these new believers, they declared “they turned the world upside down” (Acts 17:6). That’s the kind of believer Charles Martin wants us to be. The kind who understands that the truth of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection is so powerful, it reshaped history. The kind of believer who lives with that same world-changing faith today. In his second non-fiction work, he uses his talents as a novelist to walk you through the lives of the disciples in the aftermath of the Resurrection and as they spread the message of the Gospel and “turn the world upside down”, leading up to Paul’s ministry in Thessonalica. In his beloved lyrical style, Martin illuminates key moments from Scripture and shares stories from his own life as a disciple. With the same depth, sensitivity, and emotion that have made his novels beloved to millions, Martin will helps you engage with your faith in a new and inspiring way.

They Turned the World Upside Down What Exactly Do You Believe? Throughout the earthly ministry of Jesus, and leading up to and through the resurrection, the apostles’ problem was our problem. Belief. This has always been the problem. So, let me dig at you a bit: What exactly do you believe? Let me put some teeth into this question.
• If God asked you to build an ark, would you?

• If He asked you to sacrifice your son, would you? Okay, let me bring it closer to home.

• If He asked you to pray for the sick— someone who was in a coma on life support attached to a ventilator, moments from being “unplugged”— would you?

• If He asked you to cast out a demon, would you?

• If He asked you to pray for a dead person, to bring them back to life, would you? Still too tough? Okay, what if He asked you to:

• Forgive someone who didn’t deserve it— at all. Would you?

• Tell the Muslim with the prayer rug in the cubicle next to you about Him. Would you?

• Risk a relationship with someone you love to tell them that their sin is not righteousness— even though they adamantly and defiantly claim that it is. Would you?

• Go to a friend’s house to pray for their child who is a cutter. Would you?

• Tithe before you pay taxes and your bills when money is already tight. Do you?

According to Jesus, the kingdom of heaven has come to us (Rev.12:10). If you are in Him, then you are in the kingdom. He also tells us that unless we become like a child, we cannot enter the kingdom of heaven (Matt. 18:3). Why is that? “Taken from They Turned the World Upside Down by Charles Martin.
