My Beautiful Curly Hair

by Kiana Holder and Arya Holder

GENRE:   Children’s

This is a story about a little girl who struggles with keeping her hair neat all the time, but grows to love and accept her wild and messy hair.

Kiana and Arya think having messy hair is more fun. Keeping your hair neat all the time is a lot of work.

When I go to school with my hair in a ponytail, it looks neat and tidy.

But by the time I get home, my hair has come out of the ponytail and it looks messy. When I go to soccer practice, I put my hair into two braids.

If I don’t do that, it’ll get in my eyes, which is not fun.

I keep wondering: why can’t my hair stay neat all the time?

My Review

It’s important to teach children to accept themselves. Children are bombarded with negative body-image media every day, but this book is a great tool to help children accept the way they look. This story is about a little girl who struggles to keep her hair neat. Her hair is very curly and she spends a lot of time trying to make it look neat and pretty. She gets frustrated when her hair gets messy after a little time. Her family is very supportive and this helps her to accept her messy hair.

  1. I have really straight hair and my hair looks messy all the time. It does not matter if I have it short or long it always looks really crappy. I would love wild and curly hair.
