When her eldest son was a toddler, Nabila used to entertain him with made-up stories about a boy who traveled the world inside a live green egg that just so happened to be an alien from another planet. She turned the tales into a colorful children¹s graphic novel series, Spartan and the Green Egg, with the intention of introducing children to environmental and cultural themes around the world.
A portion of all proceeds from the Spartan and the Green Egg book series, toys and accessories is donated to The Children for Peace ONLUS. Based in Italy, this non-governmental organization helps young people worldwide who are living in challenging circumstances obtain their essential needs such as food, medical help and educational opportunities. Nabila currently lives in New York and has two sons.

KIP THE LETTER X & SPARTAN AND THE GREEN EGG Book Tour Giveaway
What is Kip the Letter X and What do you hope to accomplish with it?
Sell a million books?! Seriously, though, Kip the Letter X was born out of a desire for children to learn at an early age to appreciate who they are. That’s huge. That’s something that many adults have trouble with.
What was it like when your first book was published?
There is nothing quite like holding your first book in your hands. It’s like a validation of the time and trouble you took to create it.
Do you plan to write another book?
I’m still waiting for the right subject to connect with me emotionally. When I feel passionately about something, then I know it’s time to write another one.
What do you think about books that are made into movies?
I’m not sure that Kip the Letter X would make a great movie, but it would definitely be a great audiobook! In general, when a book is made into a movie it’s a very delicate translation. You want to get the highlights of the book, and the overall feel, into the movie, but you are limited because movies can only be so long.
Do you read other children’s books for fun or research?
Almost never. Which now that I think about it, is probably not a good practice. I can see the value in periodically reading popular children’s books at the local library, or online. I think the reason I seldom have is because I don’t want to fall prey to inadvertently copying someone else’s style or topic just because the book seemed to sell well.
It’s Never Too Early To Teach Conservation
In my series of books, Spartan & the Green Egg, I focus on various places around the world, the culture there and in particular any ecological challenge they are facing. I do this because I believe the future of our planet and the ongoing care and protection of it must be passed along to the new generation. So often conservation and ecology are not taught until the later years in school (if at all!), but I believe like so many things, we should start to teach our children much earlier. The Spartan & the Green Egg series introduces children to such weighty topics as deforestation of the Amazon, the destruction of the reef systems around the world, and in my latest book, Land of the Midnight Sun, global warming in Greenland. The books aren’t preachy or dry like a text book, yet I believe I achieved a happy medium between entertainment and awareness of conservation hotspots around the world.
