An Author Who Wears Many Hats
I have always been a writer. I have loved writing since I was able to first hold a pencil. When I was little, my father use to tell me to go outside, play, and enjoy the sunshine. He advised me to save writing my stories and poems for rainy days. I just wanted to write all the time.
I earned my bachelor’s degree in English with a minor in Journalism with the intent to become a novelist when I graduated. That was seriously my plan from the moment I started college. A career counselor, who never read my work, crushed my spirit, and told me that was a pipe dream. An opportunity arose within days after that meeting to pursue my master’s degree in Exercise Physiology, fully paid, so I took a little detour while trying to figure out what I was going to do when I grew up. It was then that I started writing for health and fitness magazines and research articles. I did our department’s newsletters. I snuck writing in wherever I could. I was probably the only student in the Exercise Physiology who loved writing my thesis.
When I graduated, I became a full-time personal trainer at a large fitness club downtown Chicago. Because I had my master’s degree, and am an exercise physiologist, I had every special case client. I was working very long hours. I loved training people, but I had very little time for much of anything for myself. I barely wrote. After nine months, I left to manage corporate fitness centers for a large healthcare organization. After four years there, I started my own wellness company, which I have now owned for 16 years – going on 17 (are you singing the Sound of Music song too?)
I have been married to my husband Stephen for 12 years. We got married on January 1, 2011, at 1:00pm (because he was/is the one). We have three little girls – ages nine, seven, and five. It wasn’t until the coronavirus pandemic in 2020 where I was forced into having time for myself that I began writing for pleasure.
My company went virtual. I was desperate to keep my sweet little girls in a magical bubble. They were so blessed to have each other – built-in playmates. It was just another afternoon. I went into my office and wrote The Case of the Giggles in an hour. I felt alive again. I started researching how to make my dream happen, and I never looked back. Trust me, I have my moments where I feel discouraged, like everyone. It’s then when I get some sign, reminding me, this is what I was born to do.

Karen M. Bobos is the multi-award-winning author of the Adventures in Harmony series, which was created in 2020 during the coronavirus pandemic. She and her husband were determined to keep life filled with wonder and magic for their three daughters, Scarlett (6), Daphne (5), and Cora (3). The Adventures in Harmony series was created to entertain her daughters during their stay at Gigi’s home and is filled with characters from the sisters’ world. Everyone deserves to escape to a land filled with love and adventure where creatures co-exist and happiness awaits.
