Author Bio –
Lexi Rees was born in Scotland but now lives down south where she’s slave to a carrot obsessed gelding, a frisky mare, a dog who’s convinced he’s not been fed in a month, and a house of hungry boys.
She writes action-packed adventures and fun activity books for children.
She wrote Horsing Around in response to a predominance of pink in the existing pony book market which her own son found off-putting.
She’s passionate about developing a love of reading and writing in children and, as well as her creative writing workbook, she has an active programme of school visits and other events, is a Book PenPal for three primary schools, and runs a free online #kidsclub and newsletter which includes book recommendations and creative writing activities.
Review
If you have a young horse lover in your family, I believe that they will love Horsing Around. The author didn’t just create a generic journal with puzzles and fill-in-the-blanks. This book is totally filled with a huge variety of activities for those youngsters who ride horses. I’m so impressed with the content that will encourage those learning about horses and riding.
There are cute charts with graphics that let the rider record their practicing and what they’ve learned. There are fun places to draw, describe what went well at practice and what needs improvement. There are intricate graphics to color and craft activities, too. This type of journal helps children to reach their riding goals by helping them to be accountable.
