This post is in partnership with The Children’s Book Review and Foreword Publicity.
There’s nothing quite as charming as a book written in a little boy’s voice. We get to see what he sees and feel what he’s feeling. And George is feeling embarrassed. He goes on to tell us about each family member and what they do that embarrasses him the most.
His dad goes outside in his underwear, his mom can’t cook well and often burns dinner, his sister Jenny takes selfies on her phone all the time, and little brother Teddy only wears costumes. Of course, these are all very real problems in many families and that’s what makes it so funny.
Poor little George keeps his head low. But then he starts to think of his friends and their embarrassing families. He comes to the conclusion that his family isn’t as weird as the other families. When they go to the open house at school his family does pretty well. But, will there be any embarrassing things?
I love how the author left us with a series of pictures that shows what happens next. The children are going to love this part and will have a blast describing the scene to the reader of the book. What a fun and familiar adventure!

ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATOR
Jessica Kwan is the illustrator behind Bad Attitude Bunny Illustration, though her attitude is generally not that bad. She hails from San Francisco and is currently based in northern Sweden. She enjoys drawing characters with funny expressions and anything inspired by nature and animals. Jessica is always looking for the next collaboration, but during her spare time, she likes to: travel, read, do crosswords, and pet the neighborhood cats. Some things she dislikes are sand, mosquitoes, and melted ice cream.
