Wonderful. Charlotte’s life was in danger, and she had no idea where the threat came from.
A lump clogged her throat. Falling apart in front of these people didn’t sit well with her. They all
exuded strength and courage, and here she was on the verge of becoming a blubbering mess. She
excused herself and rushed to the kitchen before the tears fell.
Fingers gripping the edge of the sink, Charlotte hung her head and struggled to catch her breath.
Hadn’t she lived through enough pain in her life with her mother’s abandonment and her father
kicking her out when she got pregnant? Not to mention, the father of her baby had wanted
