He made her the object of his wry affection. Kensington Smith, a high school English teacher fueled by coffee and plaid, looks for the good in people. The hot-but-vexing P.E. teacher and football coach, who is unfortunately her best friend’s older brother, is the exception. When he’s tapped to assist her with the annual Winter Solstice Dance, he rewrites Kensie’s long-held lesson plans of loathing as he reveals the man behind the flirtatious façade. Nicolas Lancaster has a little thing for the pretentious, people-pleasing English teacher of Crescent Cove High School… a thing where he revels in riling her up. But as his proclivities shift and he chases the heart of the woman he’s taught to despise him, Nick begins to understand the pain behind the practiced smile she dons—a mirror that reflects his own inner demons. Two hearts. Two histories. One source of Hope. Chasing Kensie is a Christian contemporary romance sparkling with Alaskan winters, unknown feelings, and a love that will light up the darkest of nights.PURCHASE LINKS:Goodreads | Amazon | Barnes & Noble | Bookshop | BookBub

REVIEW
What’s a Mississippi girl doing in Alaska? When I left the state, I never got as far north as Kensie. This wonderful character started anew as a high-school teacher there. Although she was a people-pleaser, her sweet exterior seemed to be broken by fellow-teacher Nick.
Nick was a charmer, but pushed too far with Kensie. She didn’t appreciate his flirtations, because it felt insulting to her. She began hating him, and after all of his banter, he felt rejection. They held severe prejudices towards each other.
Everyday at their school, they rubbed each other the wrong way. When it all came to a head, they both screamed hateful things to each other. Kensie’s faith kept her feeling guilty, because she was told to “love him like Jesus”. It was all she could do to just keep her mouth shut around him.
Their friends and peers all noticed their hate-filled conversations, but it appeared that Kensie protested too much. Inside, they both felt some strong romantic yearnings, but Kensie pushed them far away. As they were pushed to work on the school dance together, they had to actually get things done. After Nick defended her to his father, she softened to him.
They both apologized and after that, had things changed?
They both have faith, but Nick had stayed away from church, because of a bad break-up. Kensie was being mentored in her faith, which was the reason she felt so guilty by treating Nick so poor. As the book continues, there are signs that God is working on each one of them.
The real question is, Will they get together? You’ll have to read the book to find out. I really enjoyed this book and recommend because the lessons of redemption are so important.
