EXCERPT
“EXERCISE IS GOOD FOR DIABETICS
If you have diabetes—or, for that matter, nearly any other chronic illness—exercise is one of the most powerful tools to help you control your weight and blood sugar. And it can help you feel great too.
The list of exercise benefits is long. Exercise helps control weight, lowers blood pressure, reduces harmful LDL cholesterol and triglycerides, raises healthy HDL cholesterol, strengthens muscles and bones, and reduces anxiety. Exercise can help regulate blood sugar and increase the body’s sensitivity to insulin. Both are important for people with diabetes.
Many studies have documented that exercise is a strong ally in treating diabetes.”
Getting a good amount of exercise is a primary component to our program. Roger and I make sure that we put our daily exercise at the top of our list of things to do. It will help improve our quality of life for absolute certain. Although it’s not always easy to get Roger going, he knows the importance of exercise and will eventually fall into place beside me with a grumble and a half smile.
We like to walk, swim, bike, hike, cross country ski, and golf. The two of us choose to stick to sports in which we feel in control, as that’s important to us. Therefore, we chose to stay away from downhill skiing. We’ll leave that to the adventurous soles. Today, we’re off to the pool once our breakfast settles in our tummies.

My Review
For Type 2 Diabetics of all ages, this is the first book to read after your diagnosis. This book has two heroes, Roger and Larry, the two feet of a diabetic person. They are both presented as the opposite of the other. Just like our own personalities, Roger would prefer not to exercise and eat right. Larry does everything right, just like we all desire to eat and exercise properly, but it’s often hard to actually follow through.
Having the two sides of our mind acted out by Larry and Roger, the reader will see that it’s normal to fight against our side that wants to avoid hard work and eating right. But, when they see all the reasons that a diabetic must protect their feet, they are more motivated to do what is needed to keep their feet protected and healthy.
This book has cute animated feet that demonstrate all the points in the book. The book also has green blocks throughout that give factual information. The entire book is easy to read and is useful for a long-term resource to refresh our knowledge of diabetic health tips and foot protection. This book is also important for a caregiver to read, so that they can make sure that they can help the diabetic person have the best health possible.
