Low Sodium Cooking From the Heart

Low sodium cooking including family favorites. I have tried to include interesting little bits of the history of recipes or whose favorite it is. The book contains recipes from basic daily meals to a few gourmet ones.
This is the most requested menu item by my grandchildren when coming over. We gather and freeze strawberries when in season so they can have it all year round.
2 cups strawberries
1 cup apple juice
2/3 cup sugar
1 cup water – divided
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/8 tsp cloves
16 oz strawberry yogurt
In a saucepan, combine apple juice, 3/4 cup water and spices. Bring to a boil. Cool. In a blender, puree strawberries and 1/4 cup water. Stir cooled apple juice mixture, strawberry mixture and yogurt until well blended. Chill and serve.

I first became interested in cooking when I was about ten years old. I started clipping recipes out of magazines to try. Over the years my love of cooking and baking has progressed. When I was diagnosed with an illness that required a dietary change I decided to write a cookbook because there did not seem to be much out there with sodium restrictions. I worked with one of the top liver and blood specialists in the country, as well as, a neurologist that specializes in this area. The nutritionists and nutrition researchers at the Canadian Liver Foundation also reviewed and approved the book “Low Sodium Cooking from the Heart” so I met many wonderful people (mostly through email) while completing the book.
