Christmas at Snowflake Lodge Book Tour

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

Christmas at Snowflake Lodge

Plumber Jessica Lemond is determined not to follow in her parents footsteps by living off her famous grandfather’s fortune. However, when the old timer himself elopes to Scotland with suspicions over the recent death of his much younger third wife hanging over his head and a private detective on his tail, it is left to Jessica to follow and clear up the mess. Happy to escape from her nightmarish lodger Doreen, she heads to the remote Snowflake Lodge with her young trainee Kirsten in tow.

However, Snowflake Lodge – with its oddball staff and very dodgy plumbing – is not how it appears in the brochure. Among the beautiful Scottish scenery, and with more hot chocolate and mince pies than she can possibly handle, can Jessica find something she didn’t even know she was looking for?

My Review

Jessica Lemond may be the grand-daughter of a legendary performer, but she is determined to earn her own way in the world. Her parents enjoy spending the wealth that the star earned, but not Jessica. She’s a plumber and shares rent with a despicable character, Doreen. Doreen’s complete existence seems to be torturing Jessica at every turn, all the while destroying their flat.

When Jessica’s parents beg her to keep watch over the grandfather, she finds the perfect way to do that. Since the elder Lemond is spending the holidays at the Snowflake Lodge in Scotland, she would have to go there. Then, she finds that she can take a winter job there as the plumber. This is great for her and she also gets to escape Doreen.

Getting to this remote lodge in the deep winter snow isn’t so easy. She takes along her plumber trainee, Kirsten and they head to the lodge on a motorcycle with sidecar. This isn’t the best way to travel, but they end up being rescued by the handsome James and his reindeer.

This book is filled with humor and plenty of holiday festivity. There are so many fun characters in this book! The grandfather is a skirt chaser and Jessica can barely keep up with him as he is always on an adventure in the snow. Jessica is such a hard worker and ends up with the opportunity to create her own wealth, but what will her future be?

I give this book a PG rating for some bad language and mature situations. The romance itself is clean.

We The Dreamers Book Tour and Giveaway

 Children’s Fiction / Picture Book

Date Published: November 1, 2021

Publisher: Cayena Press, Inc.

We the Dreamers” describes the journey of immigrating to a new place through the eyes of a child. The narrative text is poetic and full of emotion. The illustrations, which seem to dance and sing, convey the story of crossing borders as a child.

This children’s picture book, told alternatively in English and in Spanish, highlights all the emotions immigrants experience throughout their journey: the characters end up feeling mystified, bemused, or even bewildered upon entering the United States.

Using colorful, imaginative illustrations and poetic narrative, “We the Dreamers” connects with its readers in an emotional and compassionate way, and it opens up the floor to holding conversations about immigration with children.

About the Author

She has a doctorate in leadership in higher education and works as a public librarian. She is the author of “Mama Tingo,” “María Montez, the Queen of Technicolor,” and “Little Giants: 10 Hispanic Women Who Made History.” “We the Dreamers” is her second fiction book for children. She lives in New York with an untamed Shih Tzu, Toby, and a much-attached Chihuahua, Maya. She spends her free time thinking (and drafting) about books to write, painting, crocheting, and crying over abused dogs.

My Review

We the Dreamers is a book written in English and Spanish that shares how children come to live in America in many different ways. Some children come legally and some come across borders. Each page has a different child and their story of their own journey. The story is told from the child’s voice and as you see each situation, it makes you stop and think. The author continues to ask, How did you get here? The reader will then think about their ancestors and how they arrived in America. I enjoyed the book and it will help children to think about others and also ask questions about their past.
