My Review

Journey with Grace: Finding Freedom Through a Transformed Life has proven a inspiring read for me. This is a personal book and easy to read. Although Sarah Grace is a psychotherapist, this book is not written from a clinical approach, filled with terms to which we can’t relate.

The book is divided into chapters which can be read and studied alone. I like that approach, because when reading self-help books it can often just run together and the mind can get overwhelmed. The author has a theme for each chapter and they all follow a similar format.

I love that each chapter teaches and explains a topic that is important for mental health. At the end she gives a section called Gracelets. These are my favorite part, because the grace is explained here. This is where the reader finds the grace and ideas to use to make a practical difference in their life.

She also includes a section in each chapter called Your Ripple. This is also a wonderful idea. Your Ripple is described as when you enter the water, a ripple occurs on the water. If another person were to enter the water, their ripple would start. And, we should think about what can happen when the ripples bump into each other. In other words, how our life touches and connects with others is important.

The author’s goal is for us to transform our life in the areas that need freedom from things that keep us from being our true self. The author is a Christian and often speaks about her personal journey. I recommend this book for those who want to improve their life.

The sleepy hamlet of Sugar Mountain harbors a secret society of women. Don’t misunderstand—the society itself is not secret—it’s the true nature of the group that is hush-hush.
Sugar Mountain is the kind of charming village that tourists adore. If you like small-town charm, quirky shops, and local art, this is the place for you. But when a blood smeared package shows up at the post office and it appears to be linked to a scheme that threatens Heidi Collinsworth’s historic home, the town takes on a sinister vibe. Heidi would lay odds that slimy Mayor Winslow is involved, but even with the enquiring skills of The Sugar Mountain Ladies Historical Society at work, proof is scarce.
The new guy in town, Adam Williams, is determined not to get involved in Sugar Mountain’s business. His last job in a big city planning office ruined his life, but Heidi needs his help. No matter how hard he tries to stay detached, Adam finds himself eyeball deep in Heidi’s problems, as well as the needs of her teenage son and a homeless dog.
With conflicting theories abound and tensions running high, it’s up to the ladies of the society to don disguises and go undercover. If they’re not careful, the town may fall to a wrecking ball, Heidi may fall for Adam, and the secret society will be exposed.

Small Things and Great

Morgan Le Fay: Small Things and Great (Fata Morgana Series Book 1)

Love Book Tours

THE CHILD FATED TO SHAPE DESTINIES …

Morgan is a little girl who lives in Tintagel Castle by the sea, loved and sheltered by her noble parents, the Duke and Duchess of Belerion. An extraordinarily clever child, extremely sharp-eyed, exceptionally curious. A little girl unlike other children.

One stormy night a ship is wrecked off the coast, bringing with it new friends – Fleur the princess from a far-off land, Safir the stowaway with a secret, and the mysterious twins Merlin and Ganieda. Morgan’s visions of another world awaken her to the realisation that she can see things others cannot. That she has powers other people do not possess.

Not long afterwards, Morgan encounters Diana, the Moon Huntress, who charges her with a dangerous mission that only she can accomplish. With Merlin by her side and unsure if he is friend or foe, Morgan must venture far from home to enter the realms of the Piskies and the Muryans, warring tribes of faeries who vie for the souls of lost children. There she must summon her magic to fight the most ancient powers in the world, to rescue a young soul destined to be reborn …

Excerpt

Morgan had never seen the sea like this.
The white-topped waves swirled and crashed beneath her, reaching up as if trying to grab her as she floated above the stormy ocean. She swayed to and fro in the wind, watching the long arms of the waves beneath her bare toes, feeling sick and terrified of the sea’s anger below. The sea foam spray hit her face as the fierce wind propelled the waves upwards to form a mighty wall. She sensed the heavy black clouds above looming over her, ready to burst with fury.
On sunny days Morgan loved seeing reflections of the sky’s different colours as they rippled across the sea, or gazing through the turquoise water to spot darting silver flashes of life under the surface. But now the waters gave back only darkness. The storm clouds were transforming the grey-green to an inky black and Morgan could see no light or life of any kind. The sky above her erupted, raining down bright swords and spears of light all around her, illuminating the darkness in brief snatches.
In the five years of her life, Morgan had never felt more helpless or frightened. She tried to shout but the roar of thunder that crashed around her drowned her cries. The wind gathered force and began blowing and battering Morgan in all different directions, carrying her through the air across the endless ocean. She tried to raise her arms to fight against the gale, but they seemed weighed down. Looking down, she saw that her small thin wrists were manacled together with irons, like her father’s prisoners before they were cast into the dungeons. Morgan opened her mouth to scream and heard sounds of terror that did not come from inside her but from all around her, like echoes of her own panic.

Picture me sitting serenely at my desk surrounded by my four-legged office assistants. The dog warms my feet, and the cat provides the purr-fict background music. I sip hot tea, sift through handwritten notes, and place fingers on the keyboard as thoughts take shape. Such is the joy of writing.

As a child, I took a book everywhere—to family dinners, to doctor’s offices, and of course to bed. Years later, a newspaper article inspired me to put pen to paper and submit my thoughts—my words—to the editor. Before I knew it, I was writing weekly columns and blogs. Then came a book co-written with my dog. (What? Doesn’t everyone do that?)

Now I’m living a dream I never knew I had—writing cozy animal mysteries featuring a dog and cat who talk to their owner. If a dog can write a book, surely animals can communicate. Naturally, my office assistants help with the dialogue. And, yes, they are angling to be listed as co-authors.

By the way, if you can’t find me, I’m traveling in the UK doing research for my next mystery—don’t judge.

Viking Voyager: An Icelandic Memoir Book Tour

Viking Voyager

by Sverrir Sigurdsson with Veronica Li

GENRE: Memoir/Autobiography

BLURB

This vivacious personal story captures the heart and soul of modern Iceland. Born in Reykjavik on the eve of the Second World War, Sverrir Sigurdsson watched Allied troops invade his country and turn it into a bulwark against Hitler’s advance toward North America. The country’s post-war transformation from an obscure, dirt-poor nation to a prosperous one became every Icelander’s success. Spurred by this favorable wind, Sverrir answered the call of his Viking forefathers, setting off on a voyage that took him around the world.

Excerpt

One memorable incident took place [in 1968] during our drive through Anbar province in Iraq. The place was unheard of when I motored through, but after the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003, this Sunni stronghold of Saddam Hussein’s became world renowned for insurgency and suicide bombings. Even during my days, traveling in this neighborhood was dicey. While guessing my way through the desert of Al Anbar, we passed a ghastly sight. It was the charred remains of what looked like a small industrial complex. The scene evoked news articles about an Israeli air raid on an Iraqi nuclear research facility. I knew we shouldn’t be there, but there was no other way out than to keep driving. Soon after, a military patrol pulled up alongside. I stopped the car, and we all got out to show them exactly who we were, a family of dumb, lost foreigners.

A soldier peered into my car. He started shouting angrily in Arabic, his finger jabbing at the camera on the back seat. They hustled us all back into the Peugeot, I in the driver’s seat, Monika next to me, while Steinn shared the back seat with the soldier. I felt something hard poke at my spine. I glanced at the rearview mirror and realized the object was the muzzle of the soldier’s machine pistol. The drive lasted an hour at most, but it seemed like eternity. To prevent an accidental burst from the gun, I took it slow and easy on the desert tracks.
