“…the more conceptual discussion of algorithms is well done, and the story is satisfying and emotionally resonant.” — Kirkus Reviews

My name is Merlin Raj and I live in Sleepy Hollow. Legend has it that a Headless Horseman haunts the town. Usually, I only have to worry about helping my boy, Matthew, to walk at school. But during the spookiest time of year, we’ll tackle the scariest creature of all—big brother.

Boo!

Will learning conditional logic save this family’s Halloween from certain doom?

Appealing to readers of all ages, Merlin Raj and the Drones of Sleepy Hollow is an ILLUSTRATED chapter-book. From artists to astronauts, the jobs of the future will deal with computers. But do kids want to read a coding book? Not as much as dog stories.

With a Computer Science degree and a passion for preparing kids for the future, author D. G. Priya blends technology with animal stories to stimulate a desire to read. Each book in the series introduces a new programming skill. If you or your child like delightful dog tales that explores universally positive themes, including empathy, kindness, dedication, and the importance of being true to one’s self, then you’ll love D. G. Priya’s tail-wagging adventure.

After a rousing “Trick or Treat,” Matthew got some sticky taffy. He plunked it into the pumpkin-shaped plastic bag. He’d also put a second sack on my back, in case he ran out of room. We expected to knock on a lot of homes.

Peter marched up to the front door. He flew the pumpkin-head drone ahead of him. It had a small net hanging from it. Peter reached the lady giving out the candy. He drove the drone in front of the candy bowl in her hands and declared, “Trick or treat!”

“What?” Matthew muttered at my side. “He got two pieces.”

As he walked back toward us, Peter smirked. “Guess who’s going to win?”

“You cheater,” Matthew said.

I nodded in agreement.

“It’s not cheating if I’m just smarter,” Peter said.

Trouble on Main Street
Sugar Mountain Book 1
by Kirsten Fullmer
Genre: Cozy Mystery, Sweet Romance

A cozy mountain town, a sweet romance, and a secret society of sneaky women…
The sleepy hamlet of Sugar Mountain harbors a secret society of women. Don’t misunderstand—the society itself is not secret—it’s the true nature of the group that is hush-hush.
Sugar Mountain is the kind of charming village that tourists adore. If you like small-town charm, quirky shops, and local art, this is the place for you. But when a blood smeared package shows up at the post office and it appears to be linked to a scheme that threatens Heidi Collinsworth’s historic home, the town takes on a sinister vibe. Heidi would lay odds that slimy Mayor Winslow is involved, but even with the enquiring skills of The Sugar Mountain Ladies Historical Society at work, proof is scarce.
The new guy in town, Adam Williams, is determined not to get involved in Sugar Mountain’s business. His last job in a big city planning office ruined his life, but Heidi needs his help. No matter how hard he tries to stay detached, Adam finds himself eyeball deep in Heidi’s problems, as well as the needs of her teenage son and a homeless dog.
With conflicting theories abound and tensions running high, it’s up to the ladies of the society to don disguises and go undercover. If they’re not careful, the town may fall to a wrecking ball, Heidi may fall for Adam, and the secret society will be exposed.
Meet the cast of colorful characters in this charming and zany introduction to a whole new series of romantic, cozy mysteries!

Sugar Mountain is a charming setting for this lovely read. The cast of characters are easy to visualize and will bring a smile to your face. This sweet story has a little bit of everything: adventure, comedy, and romance.

This book is filled with wholesome family fun. I laughed along during the meetings of the Sugar Mountain Ladies Historical Society. I think you’ll quickly learn to love Heidi, Adam, and Tyler.

The main character is in charge of the local post-office and the historical society. She may just have a secret or two in her very special Victorian home on Main Street.

The author takes the reader through all the twists and turns in the mysterious tale. I don’t want to spoil the ending, so I’ll let you read it for yourself.

I recommend this book for those who love an uplifting and delightful story.

The memoir of a magnificent woman who at the end of a life that has changed so many lives for the better, asks us all to see the beauty in one another. This memoir calls to a deeper belief in ourselves – that whatever disappointments, anguish and uncertainty life brings – we have the strength and ability to summon gratitude, compassion and acceptance to see our way through. An avid writer, her work has also been featured in SurvivorNet, Share Care Cancer Support and on her blog, A Crack in the Wall, which was selected as one of Healthline.com’s 2020 Blog of the Year awards.

About the Author

Michele Wheeler was a caring mother with twin daughters she adored. She was an easy friend that loved to smile and laugh. She was a devoted wife. Michele was a universally respected co-worker that never shied away from hard work and knew how to have fun doing it. She was a scientist. She was also someone who found herself in the devastating position of being diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 37. After surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation she lived cancer-free for four years. Cancer resurfaced, and she battled it fiercely for nearly five more years, before dying peacefully at home on June 23, 2020. During her last years, Michele fought to find her way past debilitating fear and rage to stay present, and not let cancer be what defined her. Though difficult, she succeeded. She lived on her own terms and left us with a moving memoir full of stories and wisdom, laughs and tears, hope and love.

W. M. Raebeck’s trademarks are humorous candor, spiritual stretching, and frequent exits from the comfort zone. She lives in Hawaii, with regular Mainland visits. Her 5 books to date are true-life accounts, from the misadventures of a sugar-freak hippie chick (‘I Did Inhale’), to 20 stories about art, Hollywood, and spirits (‘Stars in Our Eyes’), to trekking through the Costa Rican rainforest (‘Expedition Costa Rica’), to teaching yoga in Santa Monica (‘Some Swamis are Fat’),* and now her poetry collection, ‘Silence of Islands.’ Before authoring, Raebeck was a film and television actress based in LA, London, and NYC. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

Don’t let this title mislead you, this is a wonderful Christian book. This quick-read is a very suspense filled story that will keep you captivated until the end. There is also a wonderful redemption tale that is woven throughout the book.

The characters are well-written and I was drawn to their stories. Each person in the book had a background story that was told in a way that worked perfectly with the script.

The good guys and the bad guys weren’t obvious at first, so the villain was revealed only towards the end. Each dangerous turn had me anxious to find out who was behind the violence.

This book was a clean and wholesome read. The language was fine and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The various scenes were easy to follow, even though the characters were in danger. If they only knew what/who was the deadly connection.

The book, Deadly Connection, was published in 2020 and written by Jennifer Pierce. There are 132 pages in this book. The main characters were Reid Lucas and Quinn Matthews. Quinn is the mother of JJ Matthews and they are the characters who are being sought after by the villian.

Reid Lucas is the PI who is called by his friend Joe Lockhart, to help save Quinn and JJ from being kidnapped. I won’t give away what happens to each character in the book, but it is very exciting.

If you like an exciting tale with a Christian theme, you will want to read Deadly Connections.
